Celebrate Lois K. Haun’s Induction into the Manchester, CT Fine Arts Hall of Fame

Friday, December 2, 2011 7pm – 10p,

New notecards and prints and a few originals will be available for purchase with all proceeds going to benefit cancer research.

Lois lost a long and courageous battle with breast cancer on May 2, 2010. She had survived two previous bouts of the cancer, never letting it slow her down her love of life. Some of Lois’ more popular paintings have been reproduced as prints and note cards by her fiancé, Paul Scheu. All of the proceeds from sale of these items will go to several charities to aid children and women with cancer, as well as cancer research.

Lois Haun’s love of art, animals, and nature developed at an early age. As a six year-old she and her friend Michelle painted rocks which they sold for a dollar to tourists in their hometown of Mystic, Connecticut. By the Third Grade she was looking at college catalogs with the intention of becoming either a veterinarian or an art teacher.
Teaching art won out and she taught in Manchester, Connecticut, for over 30 years. She passed on her passion for both art and teaching to many of her students and was named Teacher of the Year in 2004. In the 1980’s, Lois received a grant to go to Pensacola, Florida, during the summer break to paint birds. Ravens, crows and black birds were the subjects of many paintings from that time. . Lois also enjoyed painting on white dinner plates – reviving an old New England tradition.
Over the years pet horses, donkeys, cats and dogs, and most recently Josie, her beloved Corgi, as well as a love and appreciation of nature were a vital part of Lois’ life.
